Legal Openings
The Jacksonville Linux Users Group Inc. has a number of open legal positions as we work towards proper legal structure and long term stewardship. These positions will be filed with the State of Florida for official public corporate record as they are filled.
- Board - Guidance, oversight, and support (multiple-openings).
- President - Oversees and runs day to day operations.
- Vice President - Provides supplemental support to the President.
- Treasurer - Accounting, banking, and financial compliance with State and Federal Governments.
- Secretary - Administrative actions, renewals, filings, etc.
These are the immediate open positions, and other positions will be coming available such as systems administrators for database, dns, mail, matrix, network/vpn, web, and any other services and servers the JaxLUG employs currently or in the future. All positions operate underneath with guidance, oversight, and support from the Board. At the present time, positions are appointed for an indefinite amount of time, until such is formalized in official By Laws, to be filed with the State of Florida. For those interested in a official position, please send an email disclosing your interest and qualifications to admin@jaxlug.ngo, and you will receive a response from a human within five business days.
The process to obtain 501(c)(3) status is a 5-year probationary, one-time, one-chance, process and any issues in this process means loss of status, permanently. This happened to Gentoo Linux, which William was involved with and tried to prevent, Gentoo is now with the SPI due to failure to create and maintain a proper legal structure; after years of paying IRS taxes as a for profit company with donated money!
This will NOT be the case with the legal Jacksonville Linux Users Group Inc. and why William L. Thomson Jr. sits atop the Board as Chairman of the Board with temporary veto powers to complete this process. Though, all that is to be formalized in draft bylaws to be reviewed and adopted publicly and filed with the State of Florida. The Jacksonville Linux Users Group Inc. organization will be properly maintained during its entire 5-year probationary period to ensure permanent retention of 501(c)(3) status.
