IRC
Internet Relay Chat (IRC), is one of the oldest still widely used text-based chat communication systems, with its origins in the late 1980s. The JaxLUG has never embraced IRC as part of its history, this has been a costly mistake, and given alternatives mediums available, most are reluctant to adopt such in modern times seeing it as archaic. That is foolish and unwise thinking, as IRC still has wide utility and is the goto chat system for many of the FOSS worlds most impactful and valuable contributors.
IRC is where most FOSS development has taken place for the past over 30-years, and anyone serious about Linux development, or a Linux administrator, and especially, Linux security professionals, should have a presence on, and use IRC. IRC is legendary for is underground networks responsible for all sorts of illicit and nefarious activity, along with substantially more, legit, legal, beneficial usages.
OFTC IRC network is the place if you are interested in Linux kernel development, visit kernelnewbies.org/IRC for more information!
